ASSEMBLED BY FRANZ KELLERHOFF, CIRCA 1886
Two gilt-tooled half leather bound notebooks numbered 1. and 2., each filled with handwritten notes and pen-drawings of Rhenish and Westfalian coat-of-arms with their description; volume 1 categorised in type, for example by vertical or horizontal division of the shield; volume 2 organised alphabetically.

Lot Notes These two notebooks represent a genealogical treasure trove for coat- of-arms. Franz Kellerhoff painstakingly assembled and noted down the information on this subject which he could find in graveyards, on monuments and documents during his lifetime. The present two books are the result of this lifelong passion, the books contain circa 3000 drawings, carefully ordened in alphabetical order (vol 2) and iconographical order (vol 1). Especially the latter is a unique mine of information for finding the family name to match a coat-of-arms.
The lacquer seal collection of Franz Kellerhoff was sold: Christie's Amsterdam, 20 September 2005, lot 20.
