"Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums (TWAM) is a joint service of the five local authorities in Tyne and Wear: Newcastle (which acts as lead authority and legal body), Sunderland, South Tyneside, North Tyneside, and Gateshead, with additional support and contributions from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). TWAM has a separate management agreement with Newcastle University, to manage the Great North Museum."
