Hallo, Beim Aufbau von JustBooks.de aus BookFinder.com hatten wir auch Probleme mit Umlauten ;-) Vialibri ist nur für englische Bücher Nutzer gedacht, wie BookFinder.com vor einigen Jahren.
Außer www.justbooks.de (die ich selbstverständlich empfehle ;-) gibt es auch andere gute Metasuchmaschinen für antiquarische Bücher wie eurobuch oder findmybook.

Das problem mit umlauten is schon corrigiert. The problem with umlauts on library search with viaLibri was a bug that I did not notice for the first 24 hours after relaunch. It is fixed now. There should be no problems with any accented characters on any of our searches, either with the library search or with the bookdealer metasearch. If you do run across any error of this nature please let me know. It will be a bug and I will fix it immediately.
There are, however, problems that originate on the sites we search and that we can do nothing about. For example: If you search for "Müller" using our button for artlibraries.net (VKK) there will be no matches from the Iris Consortium, the Rijkmuseum. Heidelberg, and two other libraries. But the problem happens on VKK, not on viaLibri. If you try the same search on VKK there will also be no results from these libraries. And VKK is a German web site.
It is absolutely NOT true that "Vialibri ist nur für englische Bücher Nutzer gedacht, wie BookFinder.com vor einigen Jahren." viaLibri is meant for users (and books) from all languages and countries and was designed from the start with the international marketplace for rare books in mind. In fact, more than half of our users (tracked from their browser preferences) have a language other than English as their primary language. Relative to overall population, we actually have more Italian users than American or English. And we do not make our users choose a language to search under and do not limit the book sites we search according to the users language. We leave that choice (via check boxes) to the user himself.
We are working on interfaces in other languages, but will never have separate sites for different languages.
The main thing to know about viaLibri is that, unlike other meta-search sites, it is designed specifically to find old and rare books rather than bargains (although it does that too). Compare the results of keyword searches on our site with the same searches on other sites and you will see this demonstrated.

Ich finde vialibri eine tolle Seite, wollte aber meinen, dass Webseiten wie JustBooks, Findmybook oder Eurobuch den deutschen Bibliophilen besser dienen sollten, da es viel mehrere deutsche Anbieter durchgesucht werden und deutsch als Nutzersprache angeboten wird. Alle diese drei Webseiten (wie viaLibri) sind auch für seltene und antiquarische Bücher gedacht, sie sind nämlich nicht ISBN basiert.

Hallo Giovanni,Thank you for your clarification, and I’m pleased that you like our site. I have long been an admirer of Bookfinder. The way in which it sorts out the various titles and editions is quite impressive. Can you really do it without using ISBN numbers? If so, I am doubly impressed.

This might be true for German bibliophiles who are only interested in German language books offered by German booksellers (though I wonder if that would be the case for most of the people who frequent Archivalia). I will readily grant that we are not the best place to look for inexpensive German books. Nor would we ever try to be. But I doubt whether most serious German bibliophiles are so restricted in their view. Do they ignore books written in Latin? Will they not buy from a French or English bookseller who has something that they want? I find that the world of rare books (the market we aim to serve) is international in outlook and indifferent to linguistic borders. Which is why it concerned me when you wrote: “Vialibri ist nur für englische Bücher Nutzer gedacht.” Nothing could be further from the truth.

On this question I would be more interested in results than intentions. The collector looking for first and early editions will, I believe, find significantly more of what he is looking for when he enters “Author: Goethe” on our site than he will on the other sites you mention. Even if he narrows his search to a specific title I think he will find that our site will find more that is rare and valuable. This applies even more for keywords, which are the tool of choice for collectors hunting for rare or unusual books. Try searching for “eisenbahn” or “Wagner Bayreuth” or “Blaue Reiter” or any keyword(s) that a collector might use to find books in his area of interest. A comparison of results should make it clear why I felt comfortable stating that “unlike other meta-search sites, (viaLibri) is designed specifically to find old and rare books rather than bargains.”
