"Paris hat viele Museen, aber kein umfassendes über die Geschichte des Landes. Das soll sich nun ändern. Im ehemaligen Judenviertel Marais soll das Historische Museum Frankreichs entstehen, kündigte Präsident Nicolas Sarkozy am 12. September 2010 an.
Es solle eng mit dem Netz aus hunderten Geschichtsmuseen zusammenarbeiten, die im ganzen Land verteilt sind. Als Sitz ist das bisherige Nationalarchiv vorgesehen. Im Frühjahr 2011 sollen zunächst die Gärten der Öffentlichkeit zugänglich gemacht werden. Eine erste große Ausstellung ist für Ende 2011 geplant, sagte Sarkozy anlässlich seines Besuchs in der Grotte von Lascaux in Südwestfrankreich, die für ihre Steinzeitmalereien bekannt ist. Die Grotte ist seit Jahren für Besucher geschlossen, weil die Höhlenmalereien von Schimmelpilzen befallen waren. Sie war vor 70 Jahren entdeckt worden. Für Besucher wurde eine Kopie geschaffen. "Wir hatten den Eindruck, eine Kathedrale zu betreten. Zu wissen, dass Menschen vor 18.000 Jahren auf diese Weise ihre Gefühle ausdrücken konnten, das ist sehr bewegend", sagte Sarkozy, der in Begleitung seiner Frau Carla war."

"The pages are yellowing but clearly legible. The writing is in German. The documents, setting out in detail the art, archives, books and other cultural valuables stolen in Nazi-occupied countries during the Second World War, are in Kyiv. Now, under an initiative supported by the State Committee on Archives of Ukraine, they're being made available on-line.
On the first day after my return to Kyiv from leave I attend a ceremony to mark the fact that the Central State Archive of Supreme Bodies of Power and Government of Ukraine (TsDAVO) is joining the Joint International Project to Extend Access to Records Relating to Holocaust-Era Looted Cultural Property (this site is also where a link to the Ukrainian archives will be placed shortly). Representatives of the Conference on Jewish Material Claims against Germany and the national archives in Germany, the USA, the UK and France, which have supported the project, attend and describe the importance of the material being made available. These are records of the Einsatzstab Reichsleiter Rosenberg (ERR), one of the main agencies responsible for looting cultural valuables in Nazi-occupied countries during the Second World War. The records of the ERR were scattered after the war and are now to be found in 29 repositories in nine countries. The collection of ERR records held by Ukraine, seized by Soviet forces at the end of the war, is the largest in the world.
The researchers and experts at the ceremony are excited that this important collection of documents, which was classified as secret in the Soviet Union, is now being made available for researchers worldwide. It certainly feels like an important step; and a symbol of how Ukraine is making concrete progress on overcoming the Soviet legacy and moving closer to Europe. To see the original documents on display at the ceremony is fascinating. The glimpse they provide of Europe's tragic past is also a reminder of the success of the European Union, which has at its core the prevention of conflict between the countries of Europe - and its continued role, alongside the Council of Europe and the OSCE, in promoting political and economic stability throughout the region."

"Un plan de déclassification des archives historiques sera prêt d'ici la fin de 2010, a annoncé mardi aux journalistes le directeur de l'Agence fédérale des archives (Rosarkhiv), Andreï Artizov.
"Nous avons prévu d'accélérer le processus (de déclassification, ndlr). Un plan de déclassification prévu pour 5 ans est en cours d'élaboration qui prévoit l'augmentation du volume du travail. Il sera prêt d'ici la fin de l'année en cours", a indiqué le responsable au terme d'une réunion commune de la Commission de lutte contre la falsification de l'histoire avec la Commission interministérielle pour la protection du secret d'État.
M. Artizov a par ailleurs souligné que lors de cette première réunion conjointe une attention particulière avait été accordée à la nécessité de déclassifier les archives.
Le chef de l'administration présidentielle russe Sergueï Narychkine avait également souligné la nécessité de cette mesure en précisant que les documents déclassifiés serviraient de contrargument à toute tentative pour réviser l'histoire de la Russie."

" Israel's Holocaust museum Yad Vashem says it has reached an agreement with Poland that gives it access to World War II-era documents in 34 provincial archives across the eastern European country.
Yad Vashem Chairman Avner Shalev said the agreement was signed Monday at the Polish State Archives in Warsaw.
Shalev said the archives include documentation produced by the Nazi German authorities who occupied Poland during the war, by Polish authorities and by Jews imprisoned in ghettos.
He called it "a real step forward" that will allow researchers in Israel to easily view documents that are scattered across Poland and which were often difficult to access, particularly during the communist era."
