"It is with great emotion that the International Council on Archives has learned about the earthquake which hit Haiti on Tuesday, 12th January 2010. Through the Council, the whole archival community expresses its deepest sympathy to the victims of this disaster and their relatives.

We are following the course of events very closely and, together with our colleagues in the international network of Blue Shield, we are collecting the necessary information, which will enable us to provide effective help as quickly as possible. We are organizing ourselves to provide assistance at the appropriate time. The immediate priorities are of a completely different kind and scale, namely to find the missing and to rescue the injured and homeless.

"Michail Suprun, Leiter des Lehrstuhls für Geschichte an der Staatlichen Universität Archangelsk, und der Leiter der Informationszentrale der Verwaltung des Innenministeriums der Region Archangelsk, Oberst Alexander Dudarew, wurden wegen Verletzung des Datenschutzgesetzes unter Anklage gestellt. Gleichzeitig beschlagnahmte die Staatsanwaltschaft bei Suprun Rechner, Datenträger und einschlägige Dokumente.
Michail Suprun wird darüber hinaus beschuldigt, einen Staatsbeamten, Oberst Dudarew, zur Überschreitung seiner Dienstbefugnisse angestiftet zu haben.
Michail Suprun arbeitet im Rahmen eines von der Universität Archangelsk, dem dortigen Innenministerium, dem Deutschen Roten Kreuz und dem Historischen Forschungsverein der Deutschen aus Russland gemeinsam getragenen Projekt über die Zusammenstellung von Namenslisten der in den 30er und 40er Jahren repressierten Polen und Deutschen.
MEMORIAL International bezeichnete die Eröffnungsgründe des Verfahrens als „absurd“ und sieht in dem Vorgehen der Staatsanwaltschaft einen neuerlichen Versuch, die Archivarbeit zu behindern und das Land auf diese Weise auch „seiner Geschichte und seines Gedächtnisses, Grundlagen nationalen Selbstverständnisses, zu berauben“.
MEMORIAL weist besorgt darauf hin, dass derartige Versuche im Zusammenhang mit den jüngsten Bemühungen des Staates zur „Rechtfertigung des Stalinismus und Vertuschung der Verbrechen des kommunistischen Regimes gesehen werden müssen“. ...."

Appello al Presidente della Repubblica e al Presidente dell'Istituto
dell'Enciclopedia italiana Giuliano Amato

Il Dizionario Biografico degli Italiani è universalmente riconosciuto come uno strumento prezioso e indispensabile per il lavoro di ricerca. Il progetto dell’opera, avviata nel 1960 dall’Istituto della Enciclopedia Italiana, prevede circa 105 volumi per un totale di 40000 biografie, riguardanti personaggi vissuti dal V secolo d.C. a oggi e il cui contributo alla vita politica, letteraria, artistica del nostro Paese è stato di particolare significato. Ad esso hanno collaborato e collaborano studiosi italiani e stranieri di altissimo
livello. Finora sono apparsi 73 volumi con un ritmo annuale di pubblicazione che nell’ultimo quindicennio è salito a 2 volumi per un totale di 650-700 saggi storiografici l’anno.

Negli ultimi mesi, tuttavia, l’assegnazione delle voci dei futuri volumi è stata sospesa e gli studiosi temono che tale decisione possa preludere alla chiusura dell’opera o alla sua trasformazione in un prodotto diverso, di minore valore scientifico.

Il mondo della cultura guarda con grande preoccupazione a questa eventualità e confida che il presidente ed i membri del Comitato Scientifico e del Consiglio di Amministrazione vogliano accogliere l’apprensione di tanta parte della comunità scientifica e l’esortazione a procedere al completamento dell’opera. Auspica altresì che il Dizionario mantenga i suoi elevatissimi standard qualitativi che ne fanno uno dei prodotti d’eccellenza del nostro Paese, giudicato dai competenti la miglior biografia nazionale esistente.
