Ich kann die Bedenken von Herrn Hauck nicht nachvollziehen. Ich habe direkt bei Brepols (brepolis (at) brepols.net) nachgefragt (allgemeine Preisanfrage, ohne Bezug auf unsere Universität) und folgende Auskunft erhalten:

In Principio exists as CD-ROM and as online database on our platform BREPOLiS.

1/ In Principio on CD-ROM :
The current release is INPR-16 (2010). A one-off purchase of the CD-ROM costs EUR 8500,- for a standalone CD. If you wish to install the CD on a LAN network, an extra network fee is due, depending on the number of simultaneous users : 1 s.u. : + EUR 150,- ; 2-3 s.u. : + EUR 450 ,- ; 4-6 s.u. : + EUR 750,-

Further updates appear yearly. If you start a standing order, you get the updates at the upgrade price (of approx. EUR 750,- per update).

2/ In Principio online :
Access to the online version of In Principio is subscription-based (yearly subscriptions). We offer two institutional subscription types :
- a Standard licence includes IP access for 3 simultaneous users and remote access. The Standard license includes access during the subscribed period, but no perpetual access.
- a Campus Wide license includes unlimited IP access, remote access and an archival disk. The Campus Wide license includes online access during the subscribed period, and afterwards you still have the data on the archival disk. As it is stipulated in the license agreement, "an archival copy is a copy of a work intended to be preserved permanently. If a library would decide not to continue its subscription it can only give access to the work on the archival copy when the total amount paid for the online subscription over the years is higher than the purchase price of the complete work on CD-ROM at the moment of cancellation".

The 2010 subscription prices are resp. EUR 700,- for a Standard license, and EUR 1200,- for Campus wide, but we are willing to prorate for the initial year (e.g. August-December : 5/12 of the above mentioned subscription prices).

Die Preise verstehen sich zzgl. MwSt.. Für Konsortien liegt der Preis etwas niedriger, je nach Zahl der Teilnehmer - das deutsche Konsortium für "In Principio Online" mit (laut GASCO-Liste) derzeit 12 Teilnehmern, davon 10 in Bayern, wird von der Bayerischen Staatsbibliothek koordiniert. (Laut DBIS haben aktuell 17 deutsche Bibliotheken Zugang auf die Online-Version, 2 weitere auf die laufende CD-ROM-Version.)

Darüber hinaus hat die BSB einen deutschlandweiten Vertrag abgeschlossen, der registrierten Nutzern einen Pay-per-use Zugriff zu einem Pauschalpreis von 4 EUR für 12h ermöglicht (d.h. man mietet praktisch den Zugang zur Datenbank für 12h).

Warum anders als für die Brepols-Datenbanken Ut per Litteras Apostolicas, Europa Sacra, Aristoteles Latinus, Library of Latin Texts / Series A (alle von der BSB verhandelt) (noch) keine Bereitstellung als Nationallizenz gelungen ist, weiß ich leider nicht. Eine Schwierigkeit ist sicherlich, dass es sich um eine nicht abgeschlossene Datenbank handelt, die fortlaufend ergänzt wird. Das gilt allerdings bspw. auch für Aristoteles Latinus.

Brepols bietet auch persönliche Subskriptionen für In principio an, den Preis dafür habe ich noch nicht erfragt (wird nachgetragen).

Nachtrag 1: Eine persönliche Subskription kostet 300 EUR pro Jahr (zzgl. MwSt.)

Nachtrag 2: 1996: > 400.000 Einträge, ca. 100.000 Zuwachs pro Jahr, 1999: > 750.000, 2003: > 1 Mio., 2010: > 1 Mio. records from three major institutions and libraries, supplemented with a growing number of individual collections, Zuwachs derzeit noch ca. 25.000 Einträge / Jahr.
